Love this brand for homeschooling. Make sure you check out the brand website to find out what numbers are associated with what grades!! They have changed the pattern of number to grade over the years and you want to make sure you are ordering the right grade for your child. Woul d also be great as a supplement to public school for children who are struggling with vocabulary, writing or reading comprehension.

my son hates spelling but loves words. with this he learns to spell and enjoys enlarging his vocabulary. it has definitely affected his scores on the sanford test. easy to use and break into daily assignments.

This is a very helpful resource for teaching vocabulary. If you schedule is too hectic to include discrete time for vocabulary, try using their website for the last 5 minutes of class. It introduces a word, gives definition, illustration, sample sentence, and then administers a 5 second quiz. "Which would represent a cylinder: a soccer ball or a garden hose? If you guessed garden hose, you are correct." The students cheer when they get it right. They love it.

I love how this program is set up so my daughter is learning how to spell but also the context and meaning of words. This helps her learn to use these words, not just blindly spell them and then never use them again. Very well done.

we homeschool and use this for vacab study. my student does one lesson per day (half a lesson if it is a long lesson). His vocab can beat most adults. he also is reading at a high school level and would be ending 3rd grade if he were in piublic school. His strong reading and writing abilities on testing is due to using this program mixed with a lot of reading of advanced books. if you child could use help in english or reading/ speaking literature I can not reccommend this program enough. We have been using for several years and will use with all other children as well.

This book series was recommended for my daughter by her tutor. It includes vocabulary lists and activities that help students learn the words, their meanings, related words and how to use them correctly.Our book arrived well within the promised timeframe and in brand new condition.

I finally made sweet potato pudding! I am a Jamaican who grew up in the US. I also married an Italian man that loves his Italian food, so my Jamaican cooking skills are sadly lacking. For years I tried to make sweet potato pudding and failed! I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong! I followed every ingredient in my old Jamaican cookbook, but came up short every time! I bought this cookbook to make the famous Jamaican rice and peas, but was pleasantly surprised to see so many of my other favorite Jamaican dishes. One of them was the elusive sweet potato pudding ( my old nemesis). Rice and peas forgotten, I immediately scanned the contents of what ingredients i needed to get for my sweet potato pudding and ran into this little statement when I clicked on the highlighted sweet potato, "The sweet potato used in Jamaican recipes is light-yellow inside. These recipes are Not for the sweet potatoes that are also known as Yams in the USA and are orange inside". DAH!!! I was using the WRONG sweet potato all along! How stupid, how frustrating, how humiliating! Haha, I can laugh about it now but I felt very foolish for making such a silly mistake! Anyway, I followed the recipe and made the best sweet potato pudding I ever ate in my life! My husband joked and said " I've waited ten years for this! (that's about how long I've been trying to make sweet potato pudding and failing!) My point is this, this cookbook is awesome! it is well written and is filled with interesting details and is very informative. You cannot go wrong, it has pictures of most of the hard to find ingredients and informs you about them. The recipes are easy to follow, and with the proof of my sweet potato pudding, delicious. Next up, Stew Peas....

I am Jamaican and get asked a lot to cook for friends so I bought this book for them.. The recipe is way off I tried a few of them my self and it tasted nowhere near Jamaican to me

This book is phenomenal!!! It has all the pictures to each recipe to show you how the food is suppose to turn out. When I saw how easy the recipes were to cook and how well prepared the dishes were, I was ready to start cooking/eating right away. This is a great cookbook especially if you are wanting to learn to cook from different cultures. I usually do not leave reviews but, I was very impressed with this cookbook.

Doesn't get any more authentic than this. Honest and time proven recipes that actually work. Thoughtfully assembled collection of real Jamaican cooking, complete with foolproof guidance on ingredients and great pictures.

Well written with care, warmth and respect to family, true recipes, and explanations of ingredients and techniques. The only draw back is the limited number of recipes. I greatly respect the authors who have written this book with honor to family and heritage.

Eckstein has previously co-written a book titled Public Dollars, Private Stadiums, about using taxpayer monies to fund athletic facilities for professional teams. This book is about another key issue in sports and finance.This book is both a scholarly exercise and a personal look, as Eckstein is a researcher and also a father and youth sports coach. While he concentrates in this volume on girls' sports, the issues also have implications for boys. In reading it I was often reminded of Jeff Passan's recent book The Arm, about baseball pitcher injuries occurring earlier and earlier, and affecting many youngsters. A common theme in both books is the prevalence of so-called travel teams, and the dangers of concentrating on one sport year-round resulting in overuse injuries.The book is very readable though the reader should be aware this is a scholarly treatment. It is based on research, much of it Eckstein's own research, and tends to pound on a point more than a "popular" tome would. That's all right, because there is an important point to pound here; the influence of for-profit sports organizations and retailers selling a product to get children and their parents to buy into a notion that they can earn scholarships to colleges through sports. Never mind that these families are already well off, could easily afford the college tuition, and spend more on these travel teams than they would just paying the tuition even if they do manage to get a scholarship.Eckstein concentrates on five sports; soccer, field hockey, ice hockey, figure skating, and ultimate frisbee. They each have different professional possibilities, different college opportunities, and different places in society. There are themes common to all and individual to each. Eckstein has spent a lot of time preparing his material, going to conferences and meetings for each sport and interviewing girls and parents as well as coaches and officials in each. The interview quotes from those involved are the most compelling part of the book. The selling tactics used, what people have learned, and what they choose to ignore is often very telling.I never had a child with aspirations of playing a sport in the pros or in college, but if I had I would have wanted to read this book first. Eckstein devotes a chapter to each of several aspects of the issue, then a final chapter with some ideas for reform, many of them quite earth-shaking to our present way of doing things. Perhaps the way we do things could use some shaking.

Second daughter's family was heart broken when their Yellow Lab, aged and ill, had to be put down. In the next two years they adopted two more "special needs" Yellows, one nearly blind and the other with severe separation anxiety. The dogs have thrived in this family with three adoring and caring children and the children consider the dogs their siblings. This calendar helps them daily celebrate their family circle.

The new year wouldn't be the same without our yearly Yellow Dog Calendar, I can't wait to start using it.

As an owner of yellow lab I absolutely LOVE this calendar. Will definitely look for next year edition as well.
