I was looking for a comprehensive pyspark cookbook and came across this. Unfortunately I can’t recommend this book due to a plethora of issues. I don’t have much experience with Apress books, so I can’t speak to the general quality of their editorial process, but this book may quite possibly be the worst edited technical book I’ve ever picked up. Typos, repeat sentences, poor grammar, awkward language, this book has it all. Did anyone bother to proof read this before publication? To cap it off, the formatting on the kindle is atrocious (it’s very difficult to tell apart console commands from the outputs). The content isn’t great either. You’re 40% through the book before you see any pyspark recipes. That first 40% is mostly spent on installation instructions and an underwhelming python tutorial. The installation instructions involve typing commands into the terminal and editing config files. None of this is necessary as 1. there are plenty of great Hadoop installation tutorials online, 2. You can forgo the entire installation process with preconfigured sandbox images, and 3. There are cloud solutions which can get you up and running with Hadoop in minutes. Same can be said of the python tutorial; I don’t think anyone looking to learn python is going to start with a pyspark cookbook, so what’s the point of including a very rudimentary tutorial? All of this leave very little space dedicated to pyspark itself. So unfortunately if you’re looking to learn some advanced pyspark recipes, you’d have to look elsewhere.

The book couldn't have been launched at a better time as it is a comprehensive book that covers the current needs of understanding the big data in a simple and very basic way. The spectrum of the content from basic installation to contextual mathemathics of topics covers almost all aspects of big data required to understand the field.

A 360 degree guide for today's big data processing needs - with a focus on PySpark. The writer recommends and makes you aware of additional stuff you might need - with proper context. That aspect, combined with the Problem/Solution approach - makes the book immensely valuable.

The best and most usefule one I found so far on the subject, I am generally not fond of the paper books, but this one I would not mind maintaining on my shelf.

This has become my favorite calendar. I missed it one year because they were sold out by the time they ordered. Never again - here it is, July, and I was already looking for the 2019 edition.The quotes are extremely well curated. Based on past experience, there are some attribution errors, but (so far) nothing truly egregious.Virtually all the quotes are serious - no light humor here. And also, happily, very few bits of ersatz wisdom from television or media celebrities.My only criticism, every year, is the binding. It feels very fragile and I handle the calendar very gently. But the binding hasn't split yet, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.It's far from the New Year, so severely limited my browsing to just a few pagesd.All is well. Same great curation. Same great typography.Same great daily doses of encouragement and wisdom.Jerry

Calendar came damaged. The pages are all falling off. The base is cracked. Terrible.

The product, a page a day calendar arrived and despite being pressured wrapped is defective. The glue was insufficient and as such the pages are already falling apart - so instead of pulling away a page a day you’re left with a few stacks of pages. It doesn’t stick to the plastic stand either, obviously. Insufficient glue.

We have the whole series! These books are artistic and fun to read allowed. It gives you the opportunity to not only point out animal species, but also colors and teach animal sounds. I really love these books, and was so happy to purchase this series finale.

This is one of our favorite books. We have printed out pictures of each of the animals in the book, laminated them, and then hide them in my 3 year old's bedroom with a removable tacky putty. I move them around as she remembers where they are, but as we read the book, I ask her to find the animals. I also made her binoculars by putting colored paper around two toilet paper rolls that I hot glued together and attached a string at one end to go around her neck, when monitored. She loves it and it makes the book and story that much more enjoyable. The hard board book is very durable and great!

Let me tell you why my 6 month old son(and we his parents) love this book so much.For starters, it just flows. Most other baby books are so scattered. You’ll somehow memorize this book after 2-3 times you’ve read it.Minimal text! And it keeps the same pattern of words but changing the animals out.It’s colorful!! Big animals on the pages and nothing else.It’s small and compact and a board book so no papercuts. Plus the quality of this book is nice and thick and holding up nicely after excessive use.Go ahead and get Polar Bear, Polar Bear, and Panda Bear, Panda Bear while you’re at it.I’d pay more than we paid for this book- it’s a staplepiece to a babies library.

I bought this because my daughters loved Brown Bear, Brown Bear, and was not as taken with this version. It is full of more complicated animal types that do not flow easily with the rhythm. I have yet to memorize this book (and I've memorized ALL of the others that we own), which makes it hard to read when you're trying to tilt it so multiple kids can see the pictures. The illustrations are nice, and my daughters do like it, but I'm definitely not as big a fan of this book as the original.

I have always been a fan of anything Eric Carle, and this was no exception. I haven't read as much of Bill Martin Jr.'s writings, but what I have read I enjoyed. I can remember reading this book to my younger brother when he was little, and now I get to do the same with my son. The illustrations are so unique and eye catching. I really like this book because it also helps teaching the names of many types of animals. It is a good length for a quick story, but long enough that you may not have to read more than one. The phrases is this book flow nicely, and always make my son smile. If you are just starting to find books for you little one, this is a good choice, as well as Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (Board Book) by Bill Martin Jr and The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

Its hard to find books newborns and infants... They wont really pay attention to many books, and I have PLENTY that I have tried. I started reading this to my son starting at 1-2 months and he has loved it! He is now 7 months and loves it too! Its short, sweet, and has a cute rhythm to it (does not rhyme). The pictures are vibrant enough to catch his attention and not overly cluttered. There is just one animal on each page and babies love that... Clear outline of an animal. I have other books with seemingly pretty illustrations that are bright and colorful but my son could care less about those.I highly recommend this book and even buy it as gifts for new moms! It is a classic for every nursery.Also, I want to note that I dont get sick of reading it over and over...

Very cute book, convenient size for the diaper bag. Much smaller than the standard Eric Carle board book. Good size & weight for small hands.

This is a re-purchase - kids love to slide the little hiding places open and closed to expose each thing that Brown Bear spies, so it's a go-to gift whenever there's a little one needing a board book. The colors are bright, the pages are sturdy and the story holds their attention. With adults reading to them, they'll soon learn colors and various kinds of animals, and the last page exposes them to the concept of a classroom and teacher. As with any book, the child will get out of it as much as the reader puts into it, so it's an especially fun book to spend a lot of time on, asking the child questions ("Are cats really purple?" "What's the dog doing?"), pointing out letters of the alphabet that are also in the child's name, getting them psyched about things that happen at school, etc. This book is great to give to new grandparents (or aunts/uncles or babysitters) to keep at their houses for special one-on-one time, and it's short enough that it can be a good going-to-bed book.

Despite this book being a classic, I wasn't sure my toddler would actually like this because of its illustrations. But I was wrong...he loves this book! Great book for teaching basic animals and practicing animal sounds together.

First off, I was familiar with the MMPBooks, having owning several of their titles. This book is not the same size as the 'orange titles', its actually the size of a large magazine, but in book form.Now the gist of the book itself.Very few people realize that the Japanese actually bombed North America during the early part of WW2. Not by heavy or medium bombers, but by a tiny floatplane that was carried across the ocean on board Type I Boat submarines.The E14Y 'Glen' was a tiny 2 man aircraft that carried a light payload, mainly used as reconnaissance for the submarines. But the Japanese had hoped to use the aircraft to drop incendiary bombs in the Pacific Northwest to start massive fires, but failed due to dropping them during the rainy season.Covered in the book is the development of the aircraft, use on board the subs and even excellent markings and camouflage are featured, along with excellent 1/48th scale drawings and numerous photographs . Along with photographs of the only known existing example of a Glen, sadly in the wreck of the sunken Akibasan Maru.For the WW2 Japanese Aviation enthusiast , WW2 Aviation fan or lover of rarely discussed 'Odd Ducks' of aviation, this book is worth a placement in your library.

A very in depth examination of a rather obscure aircraft.

This is the 16th (No. 9116) book in MMP's "White Series". It is uniform with others in the series, being an 8-1/4" x 11-3/4", square bound card cover. There are 128 pages. There is color throughout even if one ignores the colorized front cover photo.The book has been in the works for sometime judging by how long it has been listed as "Forthcoming" on MMP's website. The book incorporates much of what was included in a previous MMP book "Japanese Submarine Aircraft" and that book's author is listed as a co-author on the present book. However, there is still plenty of new material in the present book so prospective buyers should not be scared off if they own the previous book. "Japanese Submarine Aircraft" has commanded high prices on the used book sites and the present book might cut into the demand. Roughly half of the previous book was devoted to the Aichi M6A1 so it is still a worthwhile buy if it can be found for a reasonable price.The present book is quite informative. The origins of submarine borne aircraft in the First World War are briefly examined before plunging into the background of such aircraft in the Imperial Japanese Navy. The IJN persisted with such aircraft long after other navies abandoned the concept and the strategic reasons for this are explained. All the predecessors of the E14Y (and its E14W competitor) are covered. There is a detailed service history with the two bombings of Oregon forests minutely described. The graphical content is impressive also. There are line drawings and color profiles and plans galore. There is also a very well done color cutaway drawing. There are some excellent close up photos of the aircraft supported by technical manual drawings. The book ends with an interesting section with color photos of the airframes that were sunk with a cargo ship off the Kwajalein Atoll during the war.The weakest part of the book is the low quality of some of the in service photographs. No doubt the authors had nothing better to offer and one feels that there might not be many photos of the aircraft yet to be uncovered.Highly recommended.

This book describes the E14Y GLEN aircraft built and used by Japan in World War II. As the title says, this is the aircraft, carried by submarine to near the Oregon coast and used to drop four incendiary bombs in the forests inland. I guess that the Japanese were not familiar with Oregon, because they expected the forests to burn once started. Instead the forests were wet from rain the night before. The Japanese pilot claimed that he saw all four bombs go off, but only one burned spot a few yards in diameter was ever found.Following this publishers normal practice, this book has a huge number of pictures, mostly dating from during the war. Normally they then add a section of photographs of restored aircraft from museums to show the details of their construction. In this book, this section contains pictures of the only known surviving example of the plane. But instead of being in a museum, this plane is in the hole of a sunken Japanese freighter just north of Kwajalein island. So the author went 160 feet down to take the pictures. They show the framework of the fuselage and wings as well as pictures of a float. Not too many details are left after sixty years in salt water.
